Daddio

He never said that life was easy,
But he always had a smile.
And he always told me,
Boy, money don’t grow on trees;
But he never failed to open his pocket,
And pull out a twenty.
He never was the brightest,
But his light shined down on me.
I can’t ever remember a time,
Him not loving me.
He never looked quite right to anyone,
But he was the most handsome man to me;
And there isn’t a number that I could count to,
That would be worth more than he.
He is the only man that has ever been,
Dependable enough to lean on.
Which says quite a bit,
Since he walks with a limp.
He is the only man that has ever been,
Able enough to see clearly.
Which says quite a lot,
Given he has only one eye.
He’s the man that’s taken care of me.
He’s the man that’s raised me up.
He’s the man who has a spirit.
He’s the man who filled my cup.
He is my father and I am his son.
