Prior to his conversion to Paul, Saul of Tarsus was given authority from the Jewish chief priests to bind all those that called upon the name of the Lord (Acts 9:14, 21). How would he know who to bind unless these people of “the Way” (Acts 9:2) were calling out audibly? The Hebrew word in the bible means to call or cry out and the Greek word means to invoke a person by name.
Are you in distress (Psa. 91:15), are you in trouble (Psa. 50:15), do you need an escape (Joel 2:32), do you need compassion (Isa. 55:6-7), does it feel like you’re in a pit of fear and crying (Lam. 3:55-57)? If so, then call on the name of the Lord – Oh Lord Jesus!
