What do you believe in?
Where do you put your trust?
Who has never failed you?
Are you close to giving up?
Is the ground beneath you shaking?
Is the sky falling on your head?
Is there just the smallest thought,
“The world’s better off with me dead!”
Well I tell you from my mouth,
Connected to my transformed mind;
The Lord is now the Spirit,
And He can be your living guide.
By night and day, He’ll lead you,
As a pillar of smoke and fire;
On the road to Emmaus meet you,
And fill your heart with burning desire.
Dear one, I know your struggle,
For I was once was within your shoes;
I know this world has failed you,
Even your soul it has abused.
But before you pass a sentence,
Before all hope is gone;
I pray you would trust this final plea,
And like me, you would sing this song:
Lord, I don’t know where I’m going,
I don’t trust anyone knows the way;
But if you are really living,
Then I open my heart to you and pray.
Forgive me for being so stubborn,
For holding out for such a long time;
But I need a good Samaritan,
To bandage my wounds with oil and wine.
You see I have fallen among some robbers,
Ones who have left my heart half dead;
And worse still these religious ones,
Simply passed by while shaking their head.
So have mercy on my fractured heart,
For it’s a price I’m unable to pay;
Place me on your burdened beast,
And bring me to an inn to stay.
