Set Before You

I am setting now before you,
A choice that you must make;
Life and death are its issues,
Blessing or a curse are at stake.
For all time this has been the decision,
First seen in those two trees;
One of knowledge of good and evil,
One of life designed to be free.
Then flowing into commandments,
A law given and passed down;
A protection from misfortune,
Until the Man came around!

He is this life and blessing,
In Him God’s fullness dwells;
Who also forced this question,
Standing at the feast, He yelled:
Oh, are you still thirsty,
Listen to my loving plea!
Oh, are you still hungry,
Because the reality lies in Me!
But confused and full of darkness,
So thick that they couldn’t see;
That they nailed him to a wooden cross,
After all, it’s a curse to hang on a tree.

But He is the fount of living waters,
And a river, untamable by any dam;
For He’s the lion of the tribe of Judah,
While also the redeeming lamb.
He is sitting while also standing,
He is alive yet He was slain;
He is calling out the sons of peace,
He is writing on them a new name.
So, this curse and death couldn’t hold Him,
He walked right out with the keys;
And in resurrection He now is the Spirit,
Able now to give life to you and me.

But the question is still set before you,
And it’s a choice that you must make;
But be wary of lifeless waters,
Like those of that cursed lake.
For this question is seeking closure,
Its desiring a final grade;
This test will determine the outcome,
And verify who has obeyed.
So, heaven and earth are witnesses,
Forcing this strong divide;
A separation of sheep and goats,
A choice of which only you decide.
