What does it really mean to you, to bow and bend the knee?
Heard the phrase, depends the day, there was Daenery’s destiny.
Then of course the football phase and Colin’s silent absentee.
And let’s not forget, what we already forgot, of the Cherokee.
But today is reserved, for George Floyd, on that we should agree.
Questions rise as empires fall, when are a people truly free?
Ideas give way to rising blood pressure, making it hard to breathe;
Thoughts of anguish, restricting air flow, a horizontal lynching deed.
Bile from the gut, raise the cost, of paying your life as fee.
Then it’s always divide and conquer, always target the bourgeoisie.
Emotion showing, violence growing, turning protests into brick debris.
Further allowing, logic fields plowing, government deadlock guarantees.
Now just like Malcom and Martin Luther, with me you might disagree;
Which is everyone’s right, but I beg of you, to hear my heartfelt plea.
For violence only begets more violence, as more will die needlessly.
So, let this mind be in you, the mind of a man like you and me.
Who even though was God Himself, took the form of a slave faithfully.
Now His entire life He lived to serve, until halfway through age thirty-three.
When He humbled Himself to suffer death, and that the death of a tree!
For on behalf of all creation, the Creator was killed so that we might be free.
But then something marvelous happened, God exulted Him to the lead.
Bestowing upon Him the highest name, above earth, but also beneath.
For He not only, went into death, but walked out with the keys.
Giving glory to God our Father, who issued this simple decree:
In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord all shall bend the knee!
So, I ask you honestly these questions, from Texas to Tennessee:
What are you putting your hope in, what does it really mean to be free?
Do you believe you can change the system, get an impartial referee?
Do really have a trusted news source, maybe it’s Fox or MSNBC?
What’s a name of a government agent who you believe is your trustee?
Oh, dear ones I pray you be open; I pray that you soon might see.
That salvation is found in no other name, only in Him we can believe.
For He is rich to all who call upon His name, His life you can receive.
He is the God-man who died and rose, who now as the Spirit can enter thee.
Who makes all our crooked ways become straight and fills in all our valleys.
